Reasons Yamaha R7 Only Engined 2 Cylinders

Yamaha YZF-R7 officially launched for European and North American markets. This sportbike is projected as the successor to the Yamaha YZF-R6 which has been injected to death since the end of 2020. Interestingly, yamaha R7 carries a different engine configuration, where this bike uses a 2-cylinder engine, whereas previously Yamaha R6 uses a 4-cylinder engine in line. So what's the reason Yamaha pinned a 2-cylinder engine on the R7?

Yamaha YZF-R7 is finally reborn with a more modern look and contemporary technology. For the uninitiated, the Yamaha R7 existed in 1999, as a homologation product of the Superbike World Championship and suzuka 8 Hours endurance racing. This sport bike is only produced as many as 500 units around the world.

Now yamaha YZF-R7 reborn with a 689cc engine, 2 cylinders, which has been tested. Here are some reasons why Yamaha uses a 2-cylinder engine on this bike:

The machine is more environmentally friendly.

The 2-cylinder engine carried by the Yamaha R7 is more environmentally friendly. This engine has passed euro5 regulations, so it can be marketed in Europe which has strict emissions regulations. For information, the reason Yamaha was injected to death in Europe is because it did not pass euro5 regulations.

No need to build a new machine

In addition to being more environmentally friendly, the Yamaha R7 2-cylinder engine also has other advantages because it is an engine that has been used in several types of Yamaha motorcycles, such as in the MT-07, XSR700, and Tenere 700 models. By using the engine platform of the existing model, it means that Yamaha does not need to develop a new engine anymore, so there is no need to do new engine research that usually costs a lot.

Powered Engine with Compact Size

The Yamaha R7 adopts a 689cc, 2-cylinder engine, Crossplane 2 (CP2), DOHC, 8 valves, liquid-cooled, and Euro5 compliant. The engine has a maximum power of up to 73.4 PS at 8,750 rpm with a maximum torque of 67 Nm at 6,500 rpm.

The engine is still far less than the Yamaha R6 4-cylinder engine, which can release 123.7 PS of power at 14,500 rpm. But in torque, the Yamaha R6 engine can only emit 65.7 Nm at 10,500 rpm.

However, the Yamaha R7 engine has another advantage due to its compact size and lighter weight. In addition, the torque is also larger and can be achieved in lower engine rotation. That is, this engine is certainly comfortable to use for daily driving.

2022 Yamaha R7 Limited Sale And Specifications

2022 Yamaha R7 officially launched yesterday (18/5). Even without a special ceremony, the brand's latest motorcycle with tuning forks tries to flirt with limited production frills. Not only that. Yamaha's new line of supersport is also sold at a fairly affordable price.

2022 Yamaha R7

When displayed for the first time on the official website of Yamaha Motor USA, the price of the 2022 Yamaha YZF-R7 is pegged at $8,999. The price tag is actually cheaper than the Honda CBR600RR, which was set by Honda United States at $ 11,899.

Even so, obviously the stature of the 2022 Yamaha R7 is not as big as the Yamaha R1. Yamaha R7 dimensions are only 2,070 x 706 x 1,160 mm (P x L x T). With a solid seat height of 835 mm and ground clearance of 134 mm, Yamaha R7 should be friendly enough for the new biker to move into the big bike segment. Moreover, it weighs only 187 kg.

Especially with the supply of a 689cc liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, DOHC inline twin-cylinder mechanical heart. The 2022 Yamaha YZF-R7 engine is very identical to the Yamaha MT-07. Even without information, the output of the Yamaha R7 feels the same as 74.8 PS at 8,000 rpm and 68 Nm @6,500 rpm.

However, the performance of the Yamaha R7 is far adrift compared to the Honda CBR600RR. Naturally, considering honda iron horses that already rely on four-cylinder engines. Nevertheless, the impression of driving is classified as feasible to meet the desires of speed hunters.

As stated by the manufacturer, ergonomics driving, especially when tucked in, will be felt by the rider thanks to the design of the tank and the handlebars of the clamp (clip-on). Its simple shape, makes the rider confident when driving the Yamaha R7 2022.

Yamaha R7 maneuverability is supported by an upside down (USD) suspension of 41 mm in diameter. Kyb's front shock absorber has three tunings: preload, rebound and compression – just like the 2021 Yamaha MT-07. As for the rear, supported single suspension monocross type with preload and rebound features.

To maintain stability, installed Assist and Slipper Clutch. No different from the Yamaha YZF-15 or Yamaha MT-15, the symptoms of the rear wheels of the Yamaha R7 locked due to the engine brake effect, can be avoided. In addition, the operation of the 2022 Yamaha R7 clutch also became lighter.

Unfortunately for the moge class, Yamaha R7 is quite stingy features. Call it a quick shifter that has not been embedded as a standard equipment. While we know, now only the device can be found on 250 cc sports bikes such as Honda CBR250RR and Kawasaki Ninja ZX-25R 2021.

2022 Yamaha R7

Don't expect any driving mode or some kind of traction control feature. Only the ABS braking system (antilock braking system) that controls the front and rear wheels. It's not without reason. Making the 2022 Yamaha R7 as it is like this, it confirms that he is ready to be invited to do active track day.

Yamaha R7 2022 is available in the United States

It also seems, that's the reason why the 2022 Yamaha R7 is priced quite cheaply. The reincarnation of the Yamaha R7 also seems focused on beginners who have just moved into the large motorcycle segment. Even so, fans must rush to get a bike with yamaha blue and performance black color options.

Prospective buyers of 2022 Yamaha R7 can order units via online. Unfortunately, for now the purchase of Yamaha R7 is only valid in the United States only in limited units. There is no word on how many units are available. Consumers there can queue by depositing $500 (Rp7 million). As for the unit, it will be available next June. Is the 2022 Yamaha R7 worth buying?
